The Bringewood Wedding Photography — An outdoor wedding in the Ludlow Hills with views down the valley into Wales

We have a national obsession with the weather, everyone knows that.

When you’re a wedding photographer that obsession can sometimes get ramped up even more as you wonder about sun and shade, rain and shine, all those things that determine where the wedding guests are likely to spend their time.

Add into the mix an outdoor wedding ceremony and tipi reception in a field in the Shropshire/Herefordshire countryside and the BBC weather app becomes an obsession.

But what do weather forecasters know hey?!!

Bank Holiday Weather

This wedding was on the late May Bank Holiday and for the week leading up to it the forecast kept changing, alternating between Mediterranean-esque heaven and impending meteorological doom. So driving across Shropshire on the day of the wedding I really didn’t know what to expect, but I knew that the Bride really wanted an outdoor ceremony, I mean REALLY wanted an outdoor ceremony.

Two days before there’d been torrential rain at the venue, absolute bucket loads had fallen, hopefully not an omen.

As I got closer and drove through Ludlow the weather app on my phone was telling me that there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and it was 25 degrees.

It was wrong.

Very wrong.

The auto-sensor on my car windscreen would appear to be a better judge of the actual weather than my weather app as it realised that whirring into life is the appropriate response when rain is falling….. hmmm, good job I’d packed my waterproof and wellies, as well as a hat and sunscreen.

Still, us Brits don’t let a bit of rain dampen the spirits and as my car climbed up the hills out of Ludlow the rain stopped, giving hope that the outdoor wedding would be on as planned.

Reasons to choose The Bringewood for your wedding venue:-

  • Tranquility in a country retreat on the Shropshire/Herefordshire border
  • Option to have al-fresco ceremony and dining (weather depending!)
  • Add a tipi or marquee to make it really personal

I’ve shot a few weddings where both the Bride & Groom got ready at the venue (and quite a few weddings in Shropshire!) and it adds a great dual purpose to the morning. Being able to follow both threads of the story that builds up to them meeting for the ‘I dos’ is wonderful and that’s exactly what The Bringewood Wedding Photography offers

It’s upmarket self catering accommodation, but you can hire the whole site for your wedding and get the place to yourselves. With Ludlow only about 6 miles there’s lots more choice of places to stay for the rest of your guests, just make sure you pre-book the taxi back after the party!!

With the weather still looking unsure about what to do I arrived and roamed around, capturing the build up to the wedding

Outdoor Shropshire Wedding Ceremony

Finally, under grey skies, the time had come for main event and we were go, go, go for an outdoor ceremony!!

Our photos are a dream come true!! ”

Ludlow Wedding Reception

If you look closely at the picture above, as the Bride & Groom kiss, you can see the rain. What started as a few spots half way through, then became drizzle before turning to proper rain

Did it make any difference of effect the ceremony? HELL NO!!

We’re talking one super chilled out couple here and, with a view down the valley to Wales in front of them, they had the outdoor wedding they wanted so much. AMAZING!!!

Something that will always stick with me about this wedding is chairs! It’s the perfect venue for couples that want a DIY wedding as you hire the location, but nothing else. There’s no event planner or wedding coordinator to take charge of things like moving furniture around, nut when you’ve got lots of willing friends and family that’s no problem. As the ceremony ended and the rain eased a little everyone grab hold of a chair and carried them down to the tipi, ready for the wedding breakfast later on

There’s a public right of way that passes past the venue so as everyone lined up for confetti some hikers wandered past in the background, looking a little bemused at the festivities in the middle of the country

Then guess what happened?

The rain stopped, the clouds started to clear and we saw the sun. The afternoon was gloriously sunny, tucked away in this little corner on the England/Wales border
