Barns & Yard Wedding Photography. Bride & Groom kissing on the bridge

Barns & Yard Wedding Photographer

I first heard from Emma & James about doing their Barns & Yard Wedding Photography after their wedding planner, Laura, recommended me.

Laura runs Studio 81 Events, wedding planning experts and we’d worked together on a previous wedding. So it was great that she recommended me as a photographer for this one at Barns & Yard 😊

It’s a wedding venue that I visited just before it first opened. Taking some photos for the fabulous Toscana Strings who wanted to update their website. So getting the chance to return to photograph a wedding at Barns & Yard was a fantastic opportunity.

Reasons to choose Barns & Yard for your wedding venue:-

  • Luxury barn at the foot of the Malvern Hills
  • Choice of 5 indoor and outdoor ceremony options
  • 3 Day hire, to really make the most of your wedding celebration

A Wedding Venue on the Hanley Hall Estate

Hanley Hall dates from the reign of Henry VIII in it’s current incarnation, although there has been a dwelling on the site since the 12th century.

The hall is now a family home and when the bought it 5 years ago, they saw the potential in the barns to be restored and turned into a wedding venue.

What you get with Barns & Yard is the history and character of the oak-framed, grade II listed Threshing Barn along with a lovely modern design aesthetic.

I mentioned that it has loads of different places for your wedding ceremony, which includes the Threshing Barn. But there is also The Cartshed (below), The Gallery, The Courtyard and the grounds of the hall itself.

This particular wedding was in the glass-walled, restored cartshed, which is a great example of how they’ve combined the rustic old with the modern. You still have the wooden beams but now have two walls of glass to let the light flood in.

As a wedding photographer I have something of an obsession with light and The Cartshed certainly gives you plenty of that!

A Rainy Wedding Day at Barns & Yard

Something else that us wedding photographers tend to be obsessed with is the weather. The one thing that you can’t do a damn thing about, but it’s nice to know what to expect!

This particular wedding day at Barns & Yard started off overcast and grey, with a definite prospect of rain. As a documentary wedding photographer I’m really not phased by anything that the Weather Gods might throw at us, it’s all part of the story.

Emma and her Bride Squad were safely tucked away in one of the renovated farm cottages, which surround the courtyard.

While James and the boys had the important job of greeting guests, umbrellas at the ready!

As the guests took their seats in The Cartshed, Emma was making her way across the courtyard, with a little bit of assistance!

Then, it was wedding time!

The rain had eased after the wedding ceremony so everyone was able to go outside for a bit of confetti throwing.

If you want a few hints & tips about how to have some awesome confetti at your wedding then take a look at this blog.

Those dratted rain clouds were still hanging around so the drinks reception did get some more drizzle. But the great thing about The Courtyard is the overhang which provides plenty of cover for your drinks.

The Grounds at Barns & Yard

However, a little while later, the rain stopped. YAY!

I always think it’s nice on your wedding day to have some time for the two of you, away from the hustle and bustle of the day. Chance to pause, to take it all in and perhaps explore the grounds of your wedding venue.

This is when I’ll often tag along, perhaps giving a little bit of guidance and direction, but primarily just letting you be you!

One of the great things about Barns & Yard is that the multitude of available spaces mean that your guests get to see so much of it.

It can also mean that the tables for your wedding breakfast can be set up in advance.

Like these

They look pretty cool don’t they!

I really like this banquet style of table layout. It suits a venue like this one and is super sociable for your guests.
